2015 Favorites!

This was the first year that I seriously started wearing makeup. I had always sauntered through Sephora to pick up necessities, like eyebrow tweezers or nail polish remover, but the rest of the store sort of blurred together into nonsensical mud. Thanks to beauty gurus, I’ve got that shit figured out. It’s been a wild (expensive) trip, so let’s check out my favorite discoveries of the year!

Primer: Nivea Post Shave Balm

This makes you smell like a man for a bit while you’re putting on makeup, but it makes my makeup stick to my face like nothing else. Like, I’m angry at Makeup Forever for not working as well as this $5 men’s product. I’ve used this in humidity and on stage, and it’s wonderful.

Foundation: Giorgio Armani Luminous Silk in 3

This makes my skin porcelain. Absolutely ceramic perfect. It’s pricey for sure, but it lives up to its tag. It’s also much higher coverage than I think it’s advertised as, but doesn’t feel heavy or cake up at all. This also means I can use less, making the price even out a bit. This is the kind of foundation for tricking your husband with.

Tinted Moisturizer: Nars Radiant Tinted Moisturizer

Really easy makeup. It has a high coverage for a tinted moisturizer, and doesn’t have any sort of moisturizing “slip” that makes it hard to apply the rest of your makeup. It has a dewy but not waxy finish, like some tinted moisturizers. I find myself wearing this more often than actual foundation, with very little quality lost.

Concealer: Nars Radiant Creamy Concealer in Vanilla

I love the finish this gives. I pair it with either base I’ve mentioned to add to the flawless/porcelain/wait-seriously-you-have-twins-how-do-you-sleep look. Plenty of people have reviewed this stuff, so no need to go into it, but I’m happy to say all of the reviews I’ve seen are true. (Honorable mention: Benefit Fake Up Concealer for casual days. It just feels so lovely.)

Contour/Highlight: Lancome Le Duo and Charlotte Tilbury Bronze and Glow

This combo makes for such a natural yet dramatic contour. The Lancome stick blends into nothingness so that at certain angles, you think you’ve blended the product clear away, but you’re left with gorgeous cheekbones straight on. And the Charlotte Tilbury sets it with a subtle satin finish, and makes you feel like a movie star just holding it.

Bronzer: Nars Laguna Bronzer

Do I need to explain this one? Put it on your face. The hype is real.

Blush: Charlotte Tilbury Blush in First Love

This is a really nice nude blush with an almost peachy hue. Mostly, it just makes me look healthy. Honorable mention to Nars Sin for a more dramatic berry, but First Love is definitely my favorite for “I don’t know what look I’m going for” days.

Eyeliner: Mac Rebeleyes

This. Stuff. Does. Not. Move. What more do you need to know about a gel eyeliner? (Kidding, if you need to know more, I have a review here)

Eyeshadow Palette: Becca Ombre Rouge

My favorite, favorite, favorite, favorite neutral palette. The shades are so easy to blend, and the colors are such a unique take on neutrals. If I was a sane person and only owned one palette, this would be it. (Review)

Mascara: Lancome Definicils

The staying power of this mascara is fantastic. Before using it, I thought all mascara flaked on me because there was something wrong with me. Nope, there was something wrong with the mascaras I had been using. While this doesn’t volumize all that much, the length it gives is absolutely luxurious butterfly wings.

Eyebrows: Anastasia Brow Wiz and Benefit Gimme Brow

Seriously, though, is anyone’s favorite different?

Gloss: Bite Beauty Gloss in Currant

Don’t have any witty remarks on this one. It’s just lovely, and I love the matte packaging, and it tastes nice.

Lipstick: Mac in Velvet Teddy

This color took a little getting used to. It’s so cool toned that it almost appears brown on my super pale skin, but now I’m obsessed with it. Its name suggests the look it gives – it’s a sultry, mature, mysterious lip. I love it.

Serum: Drunk Elephant Framboos

This serum gave me instant results. The first morning I woke up, my cheeks were baby bottoms. Paula’s Reviews gives it the highest rating available, and so do I. Love, love, love. (Review)

Moisturizer: First Aid Beauty Intense Hydration

I always stray from this one because the packaging isn’t fun, it’s on the cheaper side at Sephora, it seems so utilitarian compared to other offerings. But whenever a moisturizer has done me wrong or I have an actual moisture issue somewhere on my body, this is the stuff I come back to. I need to search my feelings… I know this to be true… (Dear god, am I a nerd.)

Face Oil: Josie Maran Argan Oil

This makes your face a baby butt. It takes a while to sink in, so I don’t use it under makeup, but before bed it’s magic.

Eye Cream: None yet! I used Bobbi Brown a bunch because I got samples, but I can’t say it’s favorites worthy yet… Charlotte Tilbury did just come out with one though…

Nail Polish: Marc Jacobs Nail Lacquer in Delphine

This is my favorite formula of nail polish, and Delphine just happens to be the one I gravitate towards most often. It’s a purple toned grey, just this side of neutral with some interest to it. The formula is very long lasting and the bottles are just luxurious.

  1. I bought the Nivea Shave Balm but I’m still unsure how I feel about it. I have somewhat oily skin and I felt like this was making me more oily throughout the day. My makeup would look great but I would look like a greaseball by lunch… maybe I’m doing something wrong? I want to love it 😦

      1. Hmm maybe, I think some of the YouTubers who were talking about it are oily, but who knows! I’m going to try a few more times before I throw in the towel… at least if I do, I know my husband will use it. He has stolen it twice since I bought it, haha!
